About me: I’m a PhD student at the Institute, in my third year of study and research interests focus on educational technologies and their pedagogic contexts. In the main, I am exploring and evaluation so-called Web 2.0 technologies… but mostly I hate labels and prefer to think of technologies as tools that may or may not support learning and to think about why this might be so. As a researcher, I am more interested in the cultural and design aspects of technology use than sociological aspects per se.
What it’s for: I am using this site for two reasons. (1) To give me something to think and write about for the Internet Cultures module that I am auditing at the Institute and (2) to act as a thinkspace/repository for any information I find out about the use of eportfolios in education over the next few months to support some work I am doing with the LTU team.
Well, actually, that said, there’s also a third reason… I am a longtime WordPress user but I have a standalone setup on my own server and, in part, I’m also intrigued to evaluate the differences between a hosted experience and the personal experience. I intend to blog about some of this on a separate area of this blog.
